Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

It’s time for us to sign off and head out to celebrate the end of 2009. Before we go here’s one last round up for the year:

TVNewser: How many Sunday shows will get a new host by the end of 2010? What will Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck be up to by this time next year? Cast your vote in the TVNewser 2010 prediction challenge polls.

AgencySpy: If this was “the worst year in advertising”, then we can only go up from here, right? Right?

New York Times: Will we have Fox on Time Warner Cable tomorrow morning? Negotiations are still continuing in the eleventh hour, so News Corp. might pull its channels as we ring in the New Year.

Gawker: And some good news to end the year: a series of exclusives have boosted Gawker’s traffic during the typically slow month of December.

And finally…Happy New Year from FishbowlNY! May you have a fun and safe celebration tonight and a prosperous and productive 2010.

Matt Haber Leaves Media Beat Behind

Posted in AB, Revolving Door on December 31st, 2009

train.jpgCalling covering the media “futile,” Matt Haber, currently writing about the industry at Portfolio.com, said today that he is leaving his post — and his position as a media reporter. We can’t say we don’t know how he feels.

Explained Haber, eloquently, of course:

“Reporting, blogging, aggregating, and thinking about the media on a daily basis feels increasingly like a fool’s errand. Tracking the narrative — not just of an industry’s decline but of all the incremental steps being taken to revive whatever remains salvageable for the platforms and consumer habits of the future — is futile, at least for the time being. In order to get a little perspective — and, to be honest, some rest — I’ll be stepping away from the daily media beat, at least for the foreseeable future.”

Haber is no stranger to the horrors of 2009 that claimed countless jobs this year, having been among the ranks of those laid off. He told us “All’s well,” after The New York Observer axed a slew of reporters in June, and then started writing for Portfolio.com, the revived Web site of the shuttered Condé Nast business pub, later this summer. In his parting missive, Haber doesn’t miss a chance to comment on the existence of the site where he ended up:

“The very existence of this website after the spectacular 2007 rollout and 2009 fold up of Condé Nast Portfolio is proof that sometimes the damsel does get saved before the train runs her over.”

The train doesn’t seem to have missed Haber this time around. We’ll be pouring one out for him tonight.

2010 Prediction: Gawker Will Be Sued By Joe Francis

Posted in AB, Legal Trouble on December 31st, 2009

joe-francis-shirtless.pngThis isn’t so much a New Year’s prediction as a New Year’s fact: Joe Francis and his publicist have already declared war on Gawker for naming him Douche Of the Decade and pinning the term “rapist” (now changed to “alleged rapist”) to the “Girls Gone Wild” entrepreneur.

Mediaite contacted Francis’ publicist, since the man himself didn’t seem to be taking the case very seriously (he sent the original threat of a lawsuit to Nick Denton with a CC to every major gossip writer in town, and included a shirtless picture of himself) but she assured the Web site that, “Mr. Francis is still proceeding with the suit against Gawker.”

He plans to file the suit on Monday, after the holidays, the publicist said.

Though Gawker hasn’t received the papers yet, we doubt they’ll change their stance by then (if the company’s reactions in the face of a suit launched earlier this year by Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart is any indication). Too bad Francis can’t just sue Gawker’s readers, who are the people that actually voted him to the King Douche spot. Maybe he’ll try that next.

This Year In Flesh: 2009 In Review [Year In Review]

Posted in top, AB, straight, 2009, Year in Review on December 31st, 2009

A look back at the year that was…

January
We made our way to Vegas for the Adult Entertainment Expo…and oh, the things we saw there. (Like the Real Touch Robopussy!)
“Monster Meat” terrorized the ladies of Porn Valley (and wrought havoc on their dainty bits).
Amy Fisher found forgiveness in the adult industry.
And, in the end of an era, Casey Parker left Shane’s World.

February
Evan Stone’s penis managed to make the Super Bowl interesting.
Triple penetration? You betcha!
In just one of a long, unending stream of topless shots, Kate Moss revealed her nipples to New York Magazine. To promote Topshop, of course.

March
New Sensations announced the filming of “Scrubs: A XXX Parody,” another strike in their battle for porn parody dominance.
Malin Akerman disrobed for “Watchmen”…and even that didn’t make it worth watching.
Bless our stars! Stoya did two boys…at the same time.
And in stories we wish we could forget: a terrible looking porno was shot at Howard Stern’s studio.

April
Jessica Biel’s topless scene from “Powder Blue” made its way to the internet. Apparently, that was why no one saw the movie in theaters.
In other movie news: “The Girlfriend Experience” came to the big screen…and we liked what we saw.
Eva Angelina came back from her hiatus.
Art school models: naked, clothed, and endlessly interesting.
Vivid (sorta) remakes “Deep Throat”, with Sasha Grey in the Linda Lovelace role.

May
Shockingly, Penny Flame retired from porn.
In a mere week, we saw Cassie topless (for real and faked) and Rihanna nude (albeit headless).
Gianna Michaels starred in her first ever anal scene.
This girl achieved the best orgasm ever. Everyone else, you can stop trying now.

June
Faye Reagan started doing boys (again!).
Leighton Meester’s sex tape hit the internet. Supposedly it involved a footjob, but we didn’t see it.
Supreme Commandresses Stoya and Joanna Angel united for greater sexiness.
And for like two seconds, the iPhone app store was okay with porn.

July
Faye Reagan and Georgia Jones gave us all we ever needed.
Emma “Hermione Granger” Watson continued the journey into adulthood with an almost nip slip.
Tristan Taormino roughed us up (and so did Sasha Grey).
Nude photos of Amanda Palmer were leaked to the internet…by Amanda Palmer.

August
More nude photos of Vanessa Hudgens appeared online, then promptly disappeared when her lawyer claimed she was underage.
“Twilight” star Ashley Greene also had nude photos leaked, prompting us to take an interest in “Twilight.”
One of the most hyped TV nude scenes of the year, Alanis Morissette on “Weeds,” was just a big ol’ disappointment.
And, of course, there was the McSteamy naked tape.

September
We went back to school with Digital Playground’s “Teachers.”
Rammstein scarred us for life with porn music video “Pussy.”
Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore made out in the pages of Marie Claire. Yeah, we’re still confused.
And “That 70’s Show” got porn parodied.

October
Raven Alexis won our heart with talk of WoW and ST:TNG.
Finally, we know who’s nailin’ Palin: you are.
Hanna Hilton retired from hardcore porn. If she’s still looking for work, we’ve got a few ideas for her.
“The Sex Files” made us believe.

November
The First Annual Fleshbot Awards rewarded sexy pop culture…and created some, too.
Anya Ayoung-Chee starred in a celebrity sex tape that was actually worth watching.
War Machine went from MMA fighter to pornstar.
JimmyJane unleashed the Form 2, and we were blessed.
After months of anticipation, we finally got our hands on (and our parts in) a Real Touch.

December
Over here, Gleetards! It’s Lea Michele topless.
Faye Reagan stole our heart….and won the title of Crush Object of the Year.
What a sexy, sexy year it’s been.
