WSJ, GQ, Bloomberg Businessweek Take Home National Press Club Awards

nationalpressclub07152010.pngThe National Press Club has announced the winners of its 2010 journalism awards. Notable winners include The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek and GQ, which each won one.

The Wall Street Journal won for the work of reporters Andy Pasztor and Susan Carey, whose coverage of an airplane crash in upstate New York revealed that the pilots had had minimal training and were irresponsible in the cockpit. Fellow Journal reporter Barry Newman won an award for humor.

• Edwin M. Hood Diplomatic: Lisa Friedman, ClimateWire: “China: The Yin & Yang of Climate Change.”

ASBPE Names Magazine Of The Year Candidates And Azbee Award Finalists

The American Society of Business Publications (ASBPE) has named its list of finalists for this year’s Magazine of the Year Competition within two divisions: the $2 million and over division, and the under $2 million.

Finalists were chosen by judges from the realm of b2b editing based on three consecutive issues from each entrant. The judges examined each titles’ writing, reporting, and editing; their usefulness to and interactivity with readers; editorial organization; and layout and design.

New York Times, CNBC, Vanity Fair Each Take Home Two Loeb Biz-Journalism Awards

Last night, the UCLA Anderson School of Management announced the winners of the Gerald Loeb Awards, which recognize outstanding reporting on business. Cable-news channel CNBC, newspaper/website The New York Times and culture magazine Vanity Fair each took home two Loeb awards. The Times actually won a few more if you count one for M&A reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin’s book Too Big to Fail and a lifetime achievement award for the paper’s assistant investigative editor Walt Bogdanich.
