vanityfair11.18.08.jpgWant an internship at Rolling Stone or Vanity Fair? All you have to do is raise your hand (and shell out some serious dough).

Room to Grow is auctioning off three-week summer internships at the two pubs (along with ones at CNN and Teen Vogue) during its 10th anniversary celebration at Christie’s on December 2nd.

“Reaching for the Stars” Internships
For teens (16 or older) with interest in media, music, fashion and/or movies, an internship is a priceless opportunity to learn the ropes. We are offering one three-week summer internship at each of these iconic media establishments:
Rolling Stone Magazine
CNN
Vanity Fair
Teen Vogue

We will auction off each of the internships individually. You may bid on one or more.

And all this time we thought you had to have the correct qualifications to intern at a major magazine. You know, like being a professional hockey player or something.

More “Pirates” Press Means More Naked Stoya [Hype]

Posted in pornstars, photo, jesse jane, magazines, media, topless, AB, Digital Playground, Pirates, Hype, straight, stoya, pirates 2, Cheri on November 19th, 2008

You may have thought that the arrival of cold weather might put a damper on the “Pirates II” press (pirates hate the cold weather, right?)—but that would have been foolish of you. Remember, the “Pirates” team is on a world tour… and in many places in the world, it’s still very, very warm. Regardless, we can’t complain too much about the neverending hype that is the “Pirates” franchise: after all, more “Pirates” marketing means more pictures of Jesse Jane and Stoya, naked and touching each other—like on the latest cover of Cheri. See? Everybody wins!

Ziff Davis Media’s PC Magazine Going All Digital

Posted in magazines, AB on November 19th, 2008

pcmagazine11.18.08.jpgHey, awesome. More bad news: Ziff Davis‘ flagship publication, PC Magazine is going all digital after its January issue.

Jason Young, the company’s CEO, explained the decision in a release:

“Moving our flagship property to an all-digital format is the final step in an evolutionary process that has been playing out over the last seven years. Since 2000, online has been the focal point where technology buyers get their information and technology marketers are directing their dollars to drive demand and build their brands. We have been carefully preparing for this step and are fortunate to have a digital business that has the scale, profit, and opportunity to carry the brand powerfully into the future.”

A digital version of the magazine will be available on the Web site. The release doesn’t mention whether the transition will include layoffs.

More info after the jump.

Cottage Living Magazine and Website Shuttered

Posted in magazines, AB on November 19th, 2008

memo-pad2.jpgThe fallout from the sweeping Time Inc. layoffs continues with last night’s announcement that the company intends to shutter four-year-old Cottage Living and close down its accompanying website CottageLiving.com. The November/December issue of the shelter magazine will be its last.

In a statement that accompanied the news a Time Inc. spokesperson said: “Since its inception, Cottage Living attracted significant advertiser support and fostered a loyal following among readers…However, the economic downturn has particularly affected the shelter market, and while the brand was genuinely loved by readers and advertisers alike, the economy inhibited its ability to grow.” Cottage Living launched in 2004 quickly becoming “the single-largest, ad-page tally for a Time Inc. launch” it was subsequently named Startup of the Year by Adweek Magazine in 2005. WWD says that the magazine employed 47 staffers, “of which nine will be placed within other Time Inc. publications” and that the company plans to “keep the Cottage Living brand alive in one of its other leading shelter titles.”

And this may just be the beginning of a long day for Time Inc. employees.
