David Gregory All but Certain for Meet the Press

Posted in tv, AB on December 2nd, 2008

According to TVNewser it seems all but a certainty that David Gregory is the new Meet the Press host. HuffPo’s Danny Shea got wind of the choice last night, and even though it was mostly denied by everyone involved it now looks like Gregory’s it. If so it’s an interesting choice considering Gregory’s not so spectacular run with his MSNBC show 1600 Pennsylvania Ave (formerly Race for the White House). One wonders if this is just the sort of decision that might turn the George Stephanopoulos - hosted This Week into the Sunday morning go-to (the show just had its best sweeps month ever). Anyway! What say you readers? Are you in favor of Gregory? (The “other” option allows you to enter your own suggestions).

Do You Think David Gregory is a Good Choice for MTP?

Bill and Melinda Gates to Save World Health One TV Show at a Time

Posted in tv, AB on December 1st, 2008

image002.jpgDespite the dire financial crisis currently enveloping this country, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation still has more money than it knows what to do with. (Considering the organization gives its dollars to only the worthiest of sources, even our cynical asses admit this is a good thing.)

The latest recipient: The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, which will get $3.5 million over the next three years to develop a production unit focusing on issues in global health. Correspondents around the world will produce 40-50 documentary-style reports on topics including malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, measles and neglected diseases.

The show’s executive producer, Linda Winslow, gave the following explanation in a statement:

“Health stories and international reporting have always been important to The NewsHour and our audience. Thanks to the support of the Gates Foundation, we now have the resources to give global health the attention it deserves.”

The grant will supplement the show’s current coverage of domestic health and health policy, which is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

“Entertainment Tonight” Continues To Probe The World Of Porn [Video]

newVideoPlayer(”/Gilligan_porn.flv”, 506, 423,”"); Last night on “Porntertainment Tonight”—er, sorry, “Entertainment Tonight”—the team took a look, hard look at “This Ain’t Gilligan’s Island XXX.” Porn spoofs! So cutting edge! Frankly, we’re torn between wanting to mock ET for its recent infatuation with porn… and kinda being excited that a mainstream TV show is spending so much time talking about porn. Think they’ll have us on as a guest expert?

NBC Sports Cuts Staff at Notre Dame Halftime Show

Posted in tv, AB on November 26th, 2008

nbcsports11.26.08.jpgWe hearing that NBC Sports cut a number of staffers who worked on the Notre Dame halftime show at 30 Rock after the broadcast this past Saturday, the last of the year. NBC Sports televises at least six Notre Dame home games per year. We haven’t been able to confirm the number of staffers let go, but it’s likely not more than a handful.

The cuts come at a time when NBC Universal is trying to reduce its budget by $500 million next year.

In June, NBC and ND reached an agreement to extend the broadcasts through the 2015 season.

We contacted NBC Sports PR for confirmation but have yet to hear anything back. We’ll update when we do. If you have any additional information, email us.
